Artist Statement

Working with oil and acrylic paint, I strive to escape the two-dimensionality of the canvas. Whether through thick brushwork or vibrant colors, I invite the observer to look closer–beneath the strokes of paint to the story written beneath them. Primarily, my pieces capture fleeting moments in the evolving landscape of human experience. I want the viewer to look closely, not just at the image as a whole, but at the small details that form it. These help develop an intimate understanding of not just the piece itself, but also the importance of the moment captured. Drawing upon my background in psychology and art history, I am interested in concepts such as nostalgia and how our minds categorize longing, love, and the passage of time. To me, art serves as a conduit to shape the past, present, and future–as well as an outlet for expressing the emotions evoked through it.
